The Next Phase
Gillian Harrower has been appointed to the post of Ancestral Tourism Project Manager for Scotland, to drive forward the group’s aims in the current phase.
In the lead up to Homecoming Scotland 2009, the focus of the project will be on communicating events and opportunities associated with ancestral tourism to the tourism business community.
Specific activities will include:
- Encouraging the ancestral tourism community to work together to maximise the opportunity presented by ancestral tourism, especially in the year of Homecoming in 2009, by providing world class visitor experiences that meet (and exceed) the expectations of ancestral tourists
- Liaising with the Homecoming team at EventScotland to increase awareness in Ancestral Tourism
- Developing a bank of case studies and good practice in relation to Homecoming Scotland 2009 which can be shared with the ancestral tourism community.
- Providing and communicating relevant information, advice, networking opportunities and best practice examples to the ancestral tourism business community
- Preparing and circulating quarterly e-newsletters
- Regularly updating the ancestral tourism section on www.visitscotland.org which details activity, opportunities, research and best practice.
- Researching new market and product information, and sharing this with the ancestral tourism community.
- Signposting businesses looking to develop new ancestral products to the most relevant sources of help and information on the ground
