Forestry in Scotland

We have more than 1.2 million hectares of forest and woodland in Scotland, containing more than 1.5 billion trees. Around 26 million visits are made to Scotland's forests every year, with more than 40% of all Scots visiting a wood or forest in the past 12 months. All national forests managed by Forest Enterprise (for the forestry commission) are open for recreation. Many private woodland owners also willingly provide for recreation on their land. The foresty commission helps to pay for facilities and support the provision of information about these woods through its "walkers welcome." Some of Scotland's biggest tourist attractions and beauty spots can also be found in its forests, or have forests as a vital part of their evocative imagery.
