Rosyth-Zeebrugge Survey

The new Superfast Ferry service between Rosyth and Zeebrugge was launched in May 2002. The launch was supported with communication and marketing from VisitScotland and the Area Tourist Board network, including promotional campaigns in several European countries.

The new ferry link is very important to Scotland, improving access for some of our key overseas tourism markets including France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.

VisitScotland commissioned George Street Research to undertake a market research survey in late August and early September 2002 to:

  • build a profile of the foreign leisure visitors coming to Scotland via this ferry link
  • find out about the characteristics of their trip
  • assess their use of the specific ferry-related Scottish tourist information materials

A repeat survey, with the same objectives and methodology, was subsequently commissioned by a group of six Area Tourist Boards (Aberdeen and Grampian, Angus and Dundee, Kingdom of Fife, Argyll, the Isles, Loch Lomond and Stirling AILLST), Edinburgh and Lothians and Perthshire) and carried out in May and early June of 2003. The Kingdom of Fife Tourist Board managed the project, on behalf of the group.

This report details the findings from the second survey and provides comparisons with the survey results from 2002. A two-page Executive Summary is available to download below, followed by the full, 65-page, report.
